BACKGROUND
IAL Solutions offers transportation and logistics services to U.S. Government, Military, and Commercial Shippers. While working at agency SOLTECH, I was apart of the project to help aid the design along with 2 project managers, senior designer and devs. IAL required an app to replace their complicated paper process and be used not only for their customers, but for their employees that worked in their locations and warehouses. It has to be an application that provided on-boarding, tracking, storage, and other management needs. I was apart of the team that assisted in this work.
RESEARCH
To start off the project, we went on sight with the company at their location in Florida to conduct research about the industry and conduct interviews with stockholders, and the users themselves to define their issues and goals. Long meetings were conducted where white boarding sessions were held and rough designs were produced while we were being introduced to the companies various processes.
USER PERSONAS and PROCESSES
One of the major goals accomplished while conducting our research was to map out the user personas and develop some of the processes needed for the application to be used correctly by members of the company.
VISUAL DESIGN
This design of the application went through an atomized design process, building out components and a style guide that defined what would be used to define the application. The design was also built within the material design framework. Once the design was approved by the client, it was handed to the developers to start building and I remained on as an asset to maintain and polish the development builds.
CONCLUSION
My main goal visually here was to match the company’s branding with usability and have a simple, clean aesthetic so that the user could focus on the data while having the branding compliment it. Though there was definite potential to further expand the function and visual design of this app, the client was satisfied with the first iteration to satisfy it’s immediate innovatory needs.
