BACKGROUND

This Desktop segmentation application is for a client that manages used car inventory. The client needed SOLTECH, a development agency, to build an app for internal use in order to create both static and dynamic segments and track the value of their cars for dealerships that needed the information. As one of the UX Designers on this project, I was responsible for the visual design and the wireframing for this specific feature.

WIREFRAMING

From the segment page, the user will see 2 lists of created segments, “My Segments” and “Shared Segments” that is created by other people using the application. From this page, the user can either begin to create a static segment (not updated segment) or a dynamic segment (a segment constantly being updated).

On the segment creation page, the user can define the name of the segment, the owner, and it’s shared users. If a user created a dynamic segment, “quaries” will define the segment.

To add a quary within the segment, the user will select filters that will group elements from it’s inventory together and define that specific quary so it can be added to the segment.

VISUAL DESIGN

My main goal visually here was to match the company’s branding with usability and readability and also have a simple, clean aesthetic to that the user could focus on the data while having the branding compliment it. The client’s existing visual identity was very black and white and they wanted to maintain it. While there existed a chance to better build out a more thoughtful style guide, simplicity was the goal in order to be more straightforward with the look and feel.

CONCLUSION

Though there was definite potential to further expand the function and visual design of this app, the client was satisfied with the first iteration to satisfy it’s immediate innovatory needs.
